WWTPs in Spain
A wastewater treatment plant (WWTP, «EDAR» in Spain) is the facility that treats the used water of a town or an industry before returning it to the river or the sea. Here you can find the treatment plant of your town, see the treatment and load it reports and compare it with the rest: the 2,174 urban wastewater treatment plants of Spain (2,357 records, 183 of them agglomerations reported without a plant) that Spain reports to the European Union. Each one links to Google Maps and Google Earth, to see it from the air. Treatment plants in other countries: international map (27,630 WWTPs in 31 countries).

Water reuse in Spain (figure reported by the sector, not calculated from this map): according to the 2025 study, 735 hm³ of treated and reclaimed water were reused (303 hm³ directly and 432 hm³ indirectly), 18.7 % of the water supplied. Directly reclaimed water went 31.1 % to agriculture, 31 % to sewer cleaning and street washing, 20.5 % to industrial use, 11 % to irrigation of gardens and leisure areas and 6.4 % to aquifer recharge. UWWTPS.csv(2023 call, public final version). Context and dataset sheet, at the European Agency and in the Spain factsheet. - Keep the Spanish plants:
repCodestarting withES. There are 2,357 records, of which 2,174 are treatment plants (183 agglomerations are reported without a plant). - Discard those in which either figure is missing or is zero. That leaves 2.168 assessable.
- Count how many have
uwwLoadEnteringUWWTP > uwwCapacity. The count is 229. - The definitions of both fields are in the Eionet data dictionary, en inglés:
